How Old Is Steve Rogers
In the Marvel comics, Steve Rogers, also known as Captain America, has the ability to live forever without aging due to the effects of the super serum. He has lived for extended periods of time without showing any signs of aging. However, in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), the Captain America super serum does not stop the aging process in the same way as it does in the comics.
Steve Rogers, born in 1918, is thawed in 2011, making his body effectively 27 years old. By the time of Avengers: Endgame in 2023, he would have aged to be about 39. After returning to the past to live his life with Peggy Carter, he spends another 71 years alive, reaching an impressive age of 110.
Despite the super serum given to him in Captain America, Steve Rogers does show signs of aging in the MCU.
Captain America’s Age in Marvel Comics
In the Marvel Comics, Steve Rogers is able to live forever without aging due to the effects of the super serum. He has been shown to spend decades fighting without showing any signs of aging. The super serum interacts with his cells in a way that halts the aging process. However, in certain storylines, the serum is neutralized, causing Rogers to age rapidly. This confirms that the lack of aging in Captain America is indeed attributed to the super serum.
Captain America’s Age in the MCU
Unlike in the comics, the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU)’s version of Captain America, Steve Rogers, does not possess the same level of agelessness. His youthful appearance is not a result of the super serum, but rather the time he spent frozen in ice.
In the epic movie Avengers: Endgame, it is revealed that after returning the Infinity Stones to the past, Steve Rogers chooses to embrace a normal life with his beloved Peggy Carter. This decision signifies that he ages naturally and experiences the effects of time. When he passes on the Captain America mantle to Sam Wilson, played by Anthony Mackie, we see his older appearance, indicating the passage of years.
While Steve Rogers’ age of 110 is still impressive, it highlights the fact that the MCU version of Captain America does not possess the same eternal youthfulness as his comic book counterpart. This deviation from the source material adds a layer of realistic aging to the character, making him more relatable and human in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
